Alma 7

"And now my beloved brethren, I have said these things unto you that I might awaken you to a sense of your duty to God, that ye may walk blameless before him, that ye may walk after the holy order of God, after which ye have been received.
"And now I would that ye should be humble, and be submissive and gentle; easy to be entreated; full of patience and long-suffering; being temperate in all things; being diligent in keeping the commandments of God at all times; asking for whatsoever things ye stand in need, both spiritual and temporal; always returning thanks unto God for whatsoever things ye do receive.
"And see that ye have faith, hope, and charity, and then ye will always abound in good works" (22-24).

In the Book of Mormon Institute Manual, President Boyd K. Packer, President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, explained the importance of living righteously as a priesthood holder:
“The priesthood is very, very precious to the Lord. He is very careful about how it is conferred, and by whom. It is never done in secret.
“I have told you how the authority is given to you. The power you receive will depend on what you do with this sacred, unseen gift.
“Your authority comes through your ordination; your power comes through obedience and worthiness” (in Conference Report, Oct. 1981, 47; or Ensign, Nov. 1981, 32).
As members, as covenant people, we should be humble, submissive, gentle. We should be listening to the Spirit and obedient to His words and commandments. Being temperate. Being always prayerful, and always thankful. Basically have faith, hope and charity. When we have those things then we will automatically do good works.
