My Family at the San Diego Temple (Spring 2008) |
One of those topics spoken about are the temples of the lord. So I just want to take the time to talk about how awesome Temples are. Isaiah uses the phrase "the mountain of the Lord's house" to describe temples (2). Elder Bruce R. McConkie said,
“All of the holy temples of our God in the latter days shall be built in the mountains of the Lord, for his mountains—whether the land itself is a hill, a valley, or a plain—are the places where he comes, personally and by the power of his Spirit, to commune with his people” (The Millennial Messiah [1982], 275).
Temples are just amazing places. My family has this tradition of either stopping at every temple we see and taking a picture in front of it, or we exclaim and point and chatter when we see one as we drive by. They are always easy to spot. At night they are lit up like bright stars on earth and in the day they are white and glorious as they seem to sparkle in the sunlight. "In the temple we are taught, we make covenants, and we are promised blessings. We receive ordinances that enable us to live in the presence of God" (Temples.lds.org). Temples are just amazing, awesome places. We are so lucky to have so many of them throughout the world with more being built every year. There are currently 135 operating temples (3 under renovation), 16 under construction, and 15 announced (Temples.lds.org). How glorious the temples of the Lord are. We really should take more advantage of them.
