3 Nephi 17
"Therefore, go ye unto your homes, and ponder upon the things which I have said, and ask of the Father, in my name, that ye may understand, and prepare your minds for the morrow, and I come unto you again." (3).
Elder Neal A. Maxwell said: “See how the Master focuses on the family—on pondering, praying, preparing together! It should not surprise us, if we routinize our religion and do not assign the highest priority to the kingdom, that our hearts and minds will quite naturally drift to other things” (Wherefore, Ye Must Press Forward [1977], 30–31).
We are to prepare to hear from God. We are to prepare for every Sunday worship. We aren't supposed to think that the Sabbath will prepare us for the week, but rather we are to focus on what we can do to prepare to learn for the next week.
We are to say our prayers before studying the scriptures. We are to have prayer before a lot of different studying or meeting events. We are preparing ourselves to hear from God. And we can do it with family.
